Track and Field Hosts Samford Twilight

April 26, 2003

Sophomore Bryan Baddorf cruised to a victory in the men's 3,000 meters, freshman Jennifer Craig sprinted to a win in the women's 200 meters, and sophomore Derek Simmons won the men's discus at the Samford Twilight Saturday afternoon and evening at Siebert Stadium. This was the second and final home meet of the spring season for the Bulldogs, who are scheduled to compete at the Georgia Invitational on May 3.

Baddorf outpaced the competition with a time of 8:36.89. Finishing second was teammate Chad Johnson, whose time was 8:43.69. Johnson, taking a redshirt season, ran unattached. Sophomore Ricky McLain rounded out the Samford tri-fecta in the men's 3,000, finishing third with a time of 8:51.60.

Craig's time of 24.94 in the women's 200 was just good enough to edge out teammate and fellow freshman Tiffany London, who sprinted to second place with a time of 25.34. Craig (12.14) and London (12.43) also finished 3-4, respectively, in the women's 100 meters. Craig narrowly missed the school record of 12.10, set by Heidi Sauers in 1997.

Senior Katie Flewellyn finished second, and freshman Michelle Brewer finished third, in the women's 1,500 meters. April Howell continued her outstanding freshman season with a second-place showing in the women's 100-meter high hurdles. Freshman Jessica Jansen clocked a fifth place finish in the women's 3,000, and junior Jackie Sharpe placed sixth in the women's 800 meters.

Freshman Andrew Middleton logged a top-10 finish in the men's 1,500 meters, and sophomore Kevin Carnall placed fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
